Where can I find reliable information on Hitlers Youth and the Red Guard in China?
Hello Ryan: I would like to give you some information on the Hitlerjugend. You may trust my experience (10 year German teacher with a Master’s degree in German from the University of Oregon). I regret that I’ll not be able to help you as much with the Red Guard, but I will give you some things to consider about the Hitlerjugend that you might be able to use when looking up the Red Guard (as I do think they are similar): 1) The Hitlerjugend was mandatory for any boy aged 10 or older. It did not matter if the parents objected or not. The Nazis would have assemblies in the gym, ceremonial “swearing in” and then the kids would be told they were now a member of the Hitlerjugend. 2) The Hitlerjugend trained young boys to be soldiers later in Germany’s Wehrmacht.
