“Jack the Ripper” is an unknown serial murderer who committed his crimes in 1888. He certainly existed, but we don’t know who he was though there are many theories. Sweeney Todd is a character who appeared in the Victorian penny dreadfuls of 1846-7 (a serial magazine aimed at the poorer young people), and was said to have lived around the late 18th-early 19th century. He’s probably an early urban legend!
