Where can I find out more about the historical periods that underlie GGKs historical fantasies?
After the Fionavar Tapestry, all of GGK’s books to greater or lesser extents have been inspired by different periods of our own world history. He does a great deal of reading about these periods, and a lot of ‘real world’ detail underlies his fantasies. GGK has written a detailed essay outlining his sources of inspiration, and listing the most important reference books he used. You can find it in the bibliographies section. There are also short descriptions of the different historical periods to be found in one of the reviews in the reviews section.
