Where can I find out about the Education Maintenance Allowance (EMA)?

If you’re worried that you won’t have money to carry on studying in England, think again, because Education Maintenance Allowance (EMA) can help you. The Department for Children, Families and Schools (DCSF) has set up a free helpline for students and parents on 080 810 16 2 19. There is a free Local Partners helpline available on 0800 056 2811 where you can get advice on everything from specific roles and responsibilities to the EMA (Educational Maintenance Allowances) application process. You could receive an allowance of a maximum of £30 per week but this depends on your household income. Application forms are available from schools, colleges, Connexions or the Payment body – telephone 0808 1016219. In addition a website www.dfes.gov.uk/financialhelp/ema has been created where schools, colleges, local partners, young people and parents can find out all they need to know about financial support.
