Where can I find old, original copies of local newspapers in the UK?

Old news papers can be viewed in either your local council archives, where all sorts of interesting things from local marriage, baptism and death records, population counts to news paper clippings to local historical manuscripts or occasionally and depending on how big your local is, a library. The council archives will probably be your best bet, but be prepared to pay a fee for access to local archives and the council archives will also ask for proof of identity as they like to keep tabs of who requests info on local records and they will also ask for the reason of your requested search. I went to my local archives about 2 years ago as we’ve had constant problems with flooding and I wanted to find info on old main land drain schematics that were dug and supposed to be continuously kept clear by land owners from the time they were placed when the cottages we live in were built 170 years ago.
