Where can i find more information about LHC Set Fire Week?”
September 8, 2008 – It could yield the greatest scientific discovery known to man or annihilate every living being on earth, but the Large Hadron Collider will be firing up this week with the first proton beam set to start this Wednesday. For those unaware or unfamiliar with the Large Hadron Collider, the LHC is a particle accelerator housed within 17 kilometers of tunnels underneath the Franco-Swiss border, nearest to Geneva, Switzerland. The project has attracted scientists and researchers from practically every nation in the world, and has cost nearly $4 billion to fund. The scientists at CERN, the European Organization for Nuclear Research, hope to get a first-hand look at some of the smallest particles in existence and learn more about the earliest moments of the universe’s creation. By a series of superconducting magnets, the LHC will, for lack of a better term, smash the aforementioned particles together and in the process fill in some of the biggest gaps in particle theorem. Th
