If you don’t listen to Adult Contemporary (A/C) radio, you might not be familiar with Jim Brickman. He’s a very popular New Age pianist on the Windham Hill label. When he heard Martina’s “Wild Angels” album, he realized hers was the perfect voice for a song he and Jack Kugell had written called “Valentine.” He contacted Martina and sent her a tape of the song. Martina loved the song and thought it would be interesting to do something a little different. “Valentine” spent two weeks at #1 on the Adult Contemporary (A/C) charts and even got to #68 on Billboard’s Country singles chart although it wasn’t released or promoted to country stations. The song initially appeared on Brickman’s “Picture This” album, and is also on Martina’s album, “Evolution”, as well as the “B” side of the CD single of “A Broken Wing.” It was later re-mixed for country and released to country radio by RCA.
