Where can I find information on the Russian A-9 Submarines of World War 1?
Welcome aboard comrade, mind that siphon manifold. There is a good account if somewhat technical and brief inthe book Russian and Soviet Submarines by Norman Polmar, this is from the Naval Institute so the facts are accurate. the a-9 series were the top of the line in Czarist Russia. Design cruise surface speed-26 Knots (Main engines) siphon depth and two mills recharging the batteries- 23 Knots, fully submerged, sorry but there is a price to pay a mere 5 knots. The siphon feature and the use of steam turbines for surface and siphon-depth operation was probably unique to these Russian craft, though the British had the accident prone K-class which were even faster ont eh surface but had too many problems to be war-worthy submarine craft.
