The University of Nevada, Las Vegas was founded as a land-grant university in 1957 and has accreditation from the Northwest Commission on College and Universities. The University of Nevada, Las Vegas offers more than 220 undergraduate, master’s and doctoral programs and is known for its programs in management information systems, environmental studies, history, engineering, hotel administration and fine arts. The University’s enrollment averages 30,000 students and the school is classified as a research university by the Carnegie Foundation for the Advancement of Teaching due to the high level of research activity going on there. Located in the southeastern portion of Las Vegas, the university’s 350 acre campus is 1.5 miles east of Las Vegas’ famous Strip. Known as the Rebels and Lady Rebels, UNLV is home to 17 intercollegiate athletic teams that compete in the Mountain West Conference and the NCAA’s Division I.
