Where can I find information about the IL 53 Lake County Extension?
This concept was studied as part of the Lake County Transportation Improvement Project (LCTIP), which was jointly sponsored by IDOT and the Tollway Authority. In the fall of 2001, the LCTIP issued a draft report that discussed the County’s transportation needs, potential alternative solutions, and included a pair of finalist recommendations. Those finalist recommendations included either extending Illinois Route 53 or an alternative plan that involves expanding about 60 miles of Lake County roadways. Various information about the LCTIP project and an overview of the finalist alternatives can be viewed at the project website (www.lakecountytip.com). At this time, the planning process is on hold pending a stronger consensus regarding a preferred plan.
