The metadata files associated with each shapefile or relationship file contain some information about MTFCCs. Appendix F of the 2009 TIGER/Line Shapefile Technical Documentation also contains information about these codes. A crosswalk relating MTFCCs to their predecessors, Census Feature Class Codes (CFCCs), is available in [EXCEL] and [TEXT] formats.
