Where can i find info on the old Robert B. Green hospital in San Antonio, Texas?
One of the first teaching hospitals in San Antonio was the Robert B. Green. As reported by the San Antonio Light, Robert B. Green Hospital was the county hospital established in 1916. The hospital was funded through bonds provided by the City and the County, which equally divided the $250,000 cost of building the hospital. Another contributor was Alexander Joske, owner of the Joske stores. He generously donated the complete equipment for the clinical department. (Joske’s main store was in the location which until recently was the Dillard’s Department Store at Rivercenter. The Joske’s of Texas Stores were bought by the Dillard’s Company in 1987) Today, Robert B. Green no longer exists in San Antonio. It was closed and replaced as the city/county hospital for Bexar County when University Hospital System opened. Robert B. Green was a Bexar County Judge and Texas State Senator from San Antonio Texas in the early 1900’s and died in 1907.
