There are six major national standards that govern accessible design and that are referenced in the laws that guide the industry. None of these standards apply directly to the construction of single-family homes, with a few exceptions, unless they are adopted into local code. However, they are useful in providing guidance in determining how to include accessible features in both new construction and remodeling.
