Where can I find data for Minnesota Energy End Use in Residential, Industrial, Commercial, Transportation, and Electrical Generation losses?
The Minnesota Utility Data Book is a comprehensive resource on electric and natural gas use in the state containing information from 1965-2006 reported to our department by investor-owned, cooperative, municipal and private utilities. One of the best sources for energy use is the Energy Information Administration ( www.eia.doe.gov ) which is part of the U.S. Department of Energy. They provide reports on all types of energy use, including breakdowns for residential, industrial, commercial, and transportation. They also show consumption data on specific types of fuel (natural gas, electricity from coal, ethanol, heating oil, electricity from renewables, etc.) The data is broken down by individual states and–the best part–it is available in an easy to read report. Although some of the data may be a couple years old (due to the frequency of reporting requirements) much of it is available on a monthly or quarterly basis. The EIA data is a great place to begin learning about the energy use
