Where can i find copyrights for songs?
If the song was first released in 2009 and the copyright is held by a corporation, the copyright will expire in 2104 (yes, really!). The term of copyright was originally just 14 years. The idea was to give creators of artistic works a few years to profit from their work. However, large music and movie companies have repeatedly bribed Congress into extending the term of copyright. Today, in the U.S., corporate copyrights expire 120 years after creation or 95 years after publication, whichever comes first. That’s almost ten times longer than the founding fathers of the U.S. intended. Copyrights held by individuals (such as composers and musicians) expire 70 years after the death of the artist.
