Where Can I Find an Alternative Teacher Certification Program in Texas?
Established in 1986 at Tarleton State University’s main campus in Stephenville, the Tarleton Model for Accelerated Teacher Education (TMATE) program was the first university-based alternative teacher certification program in Texas. Graduate-level courses offered through the TMATE program are approved by the state and introduce candidates to the art and science of teaching. Candidates also complete a paid, yearlong internship under guidance from assigned mentor teachers, with additional support from TMATE staff. Tarleton’s alternative certification program is also now available at the university’s campus in Killeen.
