Where can I find a map of Galveston, Texas in 1900 before anf after the Great Hurricane?
For a map of Galveston after the 1900 storm, go here: http://www.gthcenter.org/exhibits/storms/1900/maps/index.html The beachfront (the shaded portion of the city closest to the Gulf of Mexico) was completely lost. A swath of complete destruction, roughly bounded by 8th Street (east), 46th Street (west), and Avenue O (north), was the next level. Few buildings survived there. A zone of partial destruction, including the waterfront and the downtown area, occupied the innermost portion of Galveston. For a map pre-storm, go here: http://www.owlnet.rice.edu/~geol108/yoon/galveston_flood_1900.htm#maps2 Sources: http://www.gthcenter.org/exhibits/storms/1900/maps/index.
