Where can I find a good deal on a Smiling Devil Face Smoking a Cigar?
Arthur tells me that he’s made a hobby of smoking cigars. The reasons he gave me are two: the presentiment of boredom left by the impression of mere streets and trees in their everydayness, and then the sense that he needs to be doing something to pass the time so that the trees and streets remain what they are without his noticing them. Yes, he says, “Yes, there are streets and trees, but so what? They leave me with a sense of limbo. When I’m dead and gone, who the hell will care about those streets and trees?” In an attempt to deal with this limbo, Art takes out a cigar. He lights his cigar. He is now attempting to “pass the time.” Even here Art claims that passing the time is not a device that ensures the disappearance of boredom.
