Most candidates interested in becoming a veterinary technician, earn an associate degree in Veterinary Technology from a program that is accredited by the American Veterinary Medical Association (AMVA). This accreditation ensures that students gain sufficient skills from an educational program and qualifies graduates to become certified vet techs in any state in the nation. Though there are schools that offer similar distance-learning programs, like the U.S. Career Institute’s veterinary and animal care specialist career diploma, the AMVA does not accredit these or any distance-learning programs that offer diplomas.
