The music department currently sells Vandoren brand reeds for $1.50. Soon we hope to be able to offer Rico brand reeds (not as high quality, but more economical) for $1.00. Too keep the reeds stocked for all music students, reeds can only be sold at a limit of 1 per week per student. Parents can save money by purchasing reeds in bulk from a local music store (Bringe, Sam Ash, Seminole Music) or from an online vendor (Woodwind and Brasswind) – boxes of 10 are suggested. Beginner students should purchase reeds that are strength #2, and the Vandoren brand is highly recommended. All clarinet and saxophone students should have at least 4 unbroken/unchipped reeds in their case at all times. Dedicated students will rotate the reeds (play one each day), and casual students will need to have the backup reeds WHEN one breaks. Reeds break, and they break VERY often in the first year.
