Where can i buy horseradish roots or plants?
Most grocery stores have horseradish roots in the refrigerated produce section. They are large, ugly, brown roots and are not recognizable by most people. Ask the produce clerk to show them to you. It’s too late in the growing season to grow horseradish plants, since they’ll shortly be harvesting this year’s crop. If you want to buy and grow them yourself, you can get them from Park’s Seed ( www.parkseed.com ) or Burpee ( www.burpee.com ). Both are companies I’ve purchased from many times and are reliable people. You also might look in the gardening site at: www.about.com Ask if someone is willing to send you a starter root. They often swap seeds and plants. Since horseradish is a perennial plant, you could start it now and have a head start on a very small harvest next fall.
