I have a Golden Touch myself. You use it by attaching a clip to the pieice to be tested, and then you drag it on a test strip. The mark it leaves determines if it is 18K, 22K, or 24K. It’s easy to use, but a little hard to interpret the results. I understand that a lot of pawn shops use them. The more expensive testers are obviously more accurate, and probably easier to use.
The bad news is that you can not test silver non-destructively. All silver tests will harm the silver you are testing to some degree.
