They have you set up an account so they are better able to protect your information. Also it makes it easier if you want to shop from that particular store again. If you have an issue with giving your information to “multiple websites”, set up a Paypal account and use it instead. It’s one account, and you can use it on a variety of websites. Unfortunately, the only way you’re going to be able to buy an athame without setting up an account somewhere is at a metaphysical store – as in, drive to the store, go in, purchase your athame. And for anyone else’s reference – an athame is a ritual knife used in Wiccan and Pagan ceremonies. And “anathema” is not something you can buy.
Go to an occult store if you want an “occult” athame. Why do you want an athame? It is a Wiccan tool. Are you an initiated Wiccan? Traditionally an athame was a black handled knife – any black handled knife – you can even buy a normal wooden handled knife and paint or enamel the handle black. Buying it from an occult /camping/kitchen store makes it no more or less useful. My athame (I am an initiated Wiccan) is deer footed and rather shabby after 20+ years of use but it was made for me by a now dead friend, and I love it. If you are Wiccan you will also come to realise, if you don’t already, that tools are nice to have, but anything but essential, whatever all the shiny books from llewellyn tell you. If you can’t work and control things without tools, then…well…some more work required.
I don’t think you can buy anything anywhere online without creating an account and password. These accounts allow companies to track their customers as well as products shipped. It also allows for privacy policies and protection of information. These accounts make sure that no one can buy with your information except you. Your best bet to buy an athame without having to set up accounts or passwords would be to buy it in an actual store somewhere near you.
