Where can I buy a hairless/tailless/BEW/Rex/dumbo (or some other type)?
The availability of different varieties varies widely. If you want a particular variety, you may have to travel quite a way to get one. Hairless rats and, until recently, dumbo rats could not be found in most of Europe. Burmese and downunder rats and good examples of other varieties are not available in the United States. In Canada and Mexico, it is very hard to find fancy rats. Tailless rats are rare everywhere due to the complexity of breeding them. Breeders of them are very selective about placing their litters. (You also need to remember that you are not likely to find fancy varieties in pet stores in most areas because they are a little more expensive and not popular enough for the stores to carry them. Now that that’s said, here are some good places to begin your search. Try going to a rat show.
