Where can I adopt a retired police dog in Delhi?
It seems a lot of people here don’t think that retired police dogs can make good pets, but when I was younger some family friends had one. If I remember correctly she had been shot and that’s why she retired. She was great with the kids and the family, but everyone was “dog-savvy” and knew how to act around dogs. A friend of mine from the Phillipines, his father also had a retired police dog when he was younger. He loved the dog and it was very smart–almost too smart. I wouldn’t say they make bad pets. In my experience it runs the opposite. Your two best options are either to find a friend of a friend who works in the police station and can set you up with someone who knows a dog that is retiring and needs a home. It’s rare to find one, though, because usually they go home with their handler, although not as often if he gets a new k-9. I would say the best thing you could do would be to go to the police station and find out where they get their dogs from, and then go to that source. U
I stay in New Delhi and have two children. Both, I and my husband are working and our children are 7 and 4. Though we cannot take out as much as is required to train a puppy from scratch, we are exploring the possibility of adopting a retired police dog. We can give ample time where it comes to walks, we have kept German Shepherds earlier (died of old age), are very particular about nutrition and vaccination of the pet.
