Where can a Discouraged First Year Teacher Turn?

A good source is to ask for help from your mentor teacher, if you have been assigned one. If not, ask your principal if he will assign you a mentor teacher. This mentor will help you through those first few days and hopefully through that first year. If you do not have a fellow teacher who will serve as a mentor to you, visit nearby classrooms and introduce yourself. Let your fellow teachers know that you are “brand new” and that you might need some help along the way. Remember, they used to be a discouraged first year teacher too.
