Where Are White-tailed Antelope Squirrels Native?
The White-tailed Antelope Squirrel belongs to the arid desert plains of the American West. It is the most widespread squirrel species in North America. In northern parts, they may sometimes hibernate, but they generally don’t in the more southern areas of its range. The White-tailed Antelope Squirrel is a ground squirrel that is pinkish gray in color. It gets its name from the identical white stripes on both sides of its body as well as its great speed. Its head and body length is generally six inches and its tail is about three inches in length. They weigh just about a quarter of a pound. It lives in a very harsh environment dotted with sparse vegetation and feeds on green vegetation, seeds, insects, and even flesh. In spring and summer there is a relative abundance of Grasshoppers and in autumn there are beetles. For the general part, they lead a solitary life with minimal interaction. They flash the white portion of their tails to signal danger.
