Where are we on the three questions of work/life balance, diversity and customer focus?
As I mentioned in a previous edition of ‘Al Mahara’, the above topics were singled out by the Shell People’s Survey as being of most concern to Shell staff. I am happy to report that we have made good progress and moved forward on all these topics, both within SOPE and Shell Companies in Dubai and the Northern Emirates. On work/life balance we have codified into a Charter a number of guidelines and objectives for the year. Many of these guidelines were already in existence but the Charter has laid them down in a manner which makes them visible and meaningful to all staff. If, for example, staff work on days off then they no longer need to ask permission to take time off in lieu. This is now automatic. We have reinforced the requirement that everyone takes their leave and we have started printing leave balances on payslips so staff always know their leave balance.
