WHAT IS SKIN CANCER? A very crucial point of information on the sun is that it can cause skin cancer, a disease in which cancer cells are found in the outer layer of the skin. There are two types: • Non melanoma skin cancer is 95% curable if detected and treated early • Melanoma is the most serious form of skin cancer. It can appear without warning and grow uncontrolled. WHO GETS SKIN CANCER? • Fair to light skin complexion • Family history of skin cancer • Personal history of skin cancer • Regular exposure to the sun • Atypical moles • A large number of moles • Freckles • It can also occur in people of Hispanic and African American backgrounds.
