Where are the scars after liposuction?
The scars after tumescent technique liposuction as performed by Dr. Dowden are about 3/16 inch long. For liposuction under the chin, they are located behind each earlobe, and often another just under the chin. For liposuction of the breasts, they are located in the under-breast crease and out to the side. For the upper arms, they are located at several points along the arm. For the abdomen, they are located at the pubic hairline, and one on each side of the abdomen. For the thighs, there are several depending upon the extent of the fat excess, located around the periphery of the area being treated. For the knees, there are two or four per knee, usually in skin creases. Liposuction scars are usually less than 1/4 inch long, and are usually placed in natural body creases or in areas where they would be most inconspicuous, such as those areas hidden by clothing or bathing suits. In most cases, the scars will be red or pigmented for approximately six months, and gradually fade for the next six months. Scars are rarely bothersome, however, it should be noted that all scars are permanent and their height, width, and final color are not totally predictable.
