The hauntings allegedly occur in buildings that sometimes had purposes other than a way-spot for weary travelers. The residual and unseen occupants whose spirits are left behind after their deaths often have sad or grim tales associated with their presence. The Fairmont Banff Springs The Fairmont Banff Springs in Banff, Alberta, is the site of several hauntings. The most famous is Sam the Bellman. The story, according to hotel reports, is that a bellman named Sam McCauley who was forced to retire in 1978 but who promised to return. He unfortunately died before he could once again take his place at the hotel. Guests have said that a bellman in an old-fashioned uniform helps them with their luggage.
