Where are the Iowa Precinct Caucuses held and who determines the site?
Under Code of Iowa Section 43.4, the caucuses are required to be held no later than the fourth Monday in February of each even-numbered year. However, the date is required to be at least eight days earlier than the scheduled date for any meeting, caucus or primary which constitutes the first determining stage of the presidential nominating process in any other state, territory or other group that has authority to select delegates in the presidential nomination. This is intended to ensure that Iowa has “first-in-the-nation” status. With many other state moving up their primary dates in attempt to gain more attention from presidential candidates, the caucus date for 2008 is the earliest it has ever been. The scheduled date is determined by the state central committee of the political parties. The meeting location of the caucuses is determined by the county chairperson of each political party under Code Section 43.93, the precinct caucus is required to be held in a building that is public
