In Burntcoat Head, Minas Basin, part of the Bay of Fundy in Nova Scotia, tides can range 38.4 feet (11.7 meters). The bay is funnel shaped — its bottom slopes upward continuously from the ocean inlet. The result is an extreme “tidal bore,” a wave-like phenomenon at the leading edge of the changing tide.
