Where are the headwaters of the Mississippi?
The mighty Mississippi begins at Lake Itasca in Itasca State Park, in the Mississippi Headwaters region of northwest Minnesota. You can navigate the stepping-stones that cross the river, enjoy a meal at an old log cabin inn, observe an abundance of birds and wildlife, and take a narrated boat cruise on Itasca, only one of more than a hundred within the 32,000-acre park.
