Where are the glass beads from?
A. Glass beads from Europe replaced earlier African beads made out of local materials, such as ostrich shell and stone. As early as the 15th century, beads from Venice, Italy, and the Netherlands were exported to Africa. The majority of beads in the “TxtStyles” exhibition were probably made in the late 19th and early 20th centuries in what is now the Czech Republic.
