During severe winter weather, Crowley ISD is taking the following precautions to keep students and staff safe and secure… * The district provides ice melt for the entrances to all campuses and portable buildings. * All HVAC systems and boilers are checked for proper functioning levels. All HVAC systems are set to run through Monday, January 11 to maintain a consistent temperature. * Through Sunday, January 10, water access is removed from all portables with restrooms and concession areas without heat to prevent flooding in the event of burst pipes. * Gas pressure is verified with Atmos for proper heating levels at all campuses. * The district has additional portable heaters on hand in the event of equipment failure in portable classrooms. * The Transportation Department will start buses early to ensure routes begin on time. * The district will implement its relocation plan in the event of weather-related issues at any campus. The Schertz-Cibolo-Universal City Independent School District Board of Trustees voted unanimously to hire Dr. Greg Gibson as the district’s next superintendent Monday. Gibson, the superintendent at Crowley ISD outside of Fort Worth for more than six years, will take over for Dr. Belinda Putska, the retiring superintendent. Gibson was named the lone finalist for the top job by the SCUCISD school board on Dec. 9. Out of 45 candidates, the school board narrowed it down to six before Thanksgiving and conducted a first round of interviews. Three were invited back for a second interview before the vote to name Gibson the lone finalist. According to state law, there is a 21-day public comment period between choosing a final superintendent candidate and officially hiring them.
