Where are the Best Small Plates in Dallas, Texas?
I concur : THE BEST FRENCH DIP that I have ever eaten anywhere. It’s served on a toasted soft sub roll with fresh baked Prime Rib piled high on it (whatever color that you prefer) and steaming hot Au Jus to dip in. The whole thing comes with a choice of soup or salad, fresh home baked breads, and a lovely strawberry dipped in rich dark chocolate! It’s a wonderful feast even for my hearty appetite. My wife actually found this little place first, when she was looking for a nice quiet place to have “afternoon high tea with her girlfriends”. They were getting very tired of the “not so service-people and extremely high prices” that they encountered elsewhere (like a hotel that starts with an ‘A’) where they were usually having tea at downtown, so she looked around to see where else in town served High Tea. She found several including Eden. They started meeting for tea at a new place each week, but were finding very mediocre food and service with high prices, UNTIL they found Eden! She
I love French and Mexican cuisine, but typically am not a fan of “fusion food” which always seems less than the sum of its two parts. But somehow Soley! pulls it off in grand manner. Anticipating a crowd we arrived at opening time (5pm) on Saturday to a classy but comfortable decor, somewhat reminiscent of hip neighborhood restaurants you find in the Northwest and San Francisco, you may know what I mean.The scallop ceviche and salmon tartar appetizers were very light and refreshing. The scallops were citrusy with a tinge of serrano chile and the salmon had a hint of truffle oil. My wife had the duck breast and asked for the red-beet potato puree on the side because she’d rather starve than be beet’n. The waiter asked if she would rather have the jalapeno-cilantro risotto instead, which was quite the coup in her opinion. In February 2006, my friends & I celebrated my birthday 3 days early at Nandina’s, and they DENIED me a free slice of cake because my driver’s license birthday didn’t match up with the current date.I understand that drunk kids probably stumble into the restaurant trying to bum free desserts after a night of drinking on Greenville. I also understand that someone’s birthday could actually be 6 months away. but my birthday was THREE days away and they were too cheap to make one customer happy. The restaurant has good food, but they compromised customer service to save themselves a few cents. So I’ve told this silly incident to my friends , co-workers, & you (the reader).
