Where are the Best Small Plates in Dallas, Texas?
I have taken all my favorite family and friends to visit this wonderful restaurant as if it were my own private dining room complete with my own Mediteranean family. Each mouth watering dish is made fresh with a master chef’s usage of the Greek and Lebanese herbs and spices and is well worth any wait time. You won’t even realize you have been waiting as you gaze around the simple dining area at the creative use of colored bottles, plastered walls and the most beautiful capaccino machine I have ever seen.The Restaurant is right across the street from the Whole Foods market in a little strip center between some type of gas station and a convenience store. The conveniece store sells a lovely variety of wines which compliment the “bring your own bottle” policy of the restaurant. I’ve never been to the Travis location because, well, it’s on Travis. Jumped at the chance to try the Bishop Arts version even coming from Lakewood. The place wasn’t packed on Friday at 7:30, though it should have been. The food was incredible. Our server was there at just the right time, every time. I had the sangria on the rocks, my friend had the frozen and I wished I had hers. They were both great, if dangerous. Then came all those wonderful little plates. There were three of us, we picked three things each and shared. We got NOTHING that we didn’t like and had plenty of food. It was all so authentic and good. Favorites were the peppers stuffed with goat cheese, and shrimp sauteed in something heavenly that included garlic. We don’t normally get dessert but thought if the tapas are this good… So we tried the flan, which was small but better than average, and a flourless chocolate cake that I must have again before I die. Best Dim Sum in Dallas Fort Worth! It is really hard to find good Cantonese food in the DFW area. There are lots of average Chinese restaurants, but Hong Kong Royal is by far the best chinese / cantonese / dim sum restaurant. We have been to other places including Arlington and Richardson locations of other Dim Sum restaurants but Hong Kong Royal is by far the best. It has a pretty unassuming exterior but great interior and is really easy to find and get to since it is at the South East corner of Frankford Road and Josey Lane in the middle of Carrollton. The wait staff is very nice and helpful, not all of the staff is completely fluent in English but the menu is easy to read and most of the staff speaks very good english. Our recommendations are basically any of the dumplings. Everything we have had there is good but the dumplings are all awesome.
Tei Tei had been recommended to me by an associate, but my decision to go was rather spontaneous after realizing another room service meal at my hotel was just not appetizing. I arrived at the restaurant famished (and cranky), without a reservation, and was a bit grumpy at finding that the only available space was at the sushi bar. Initial service was a bit slow, but once the manager noticed I was twitchy he personally took care of my orders and did an excellent job of making me feel more welcome and well taken care of. One of the key attractions at Tei Tei is the robata style of cooking, which involves cooking food like seafood, vegetables, and meats over traditional oak charcoal. In order to sample some of the robata-style offerings I ordered the house specialty marinated sea bass (the marinade is miso-based) and grilled shishito peppers. And for a more “normal” sampling, I also ordered the chef’s choice sashimi combination with fresh grated wasabi and a spicy tuna hand roll with cuc
