Where are the Best Pilates in Austin, Texas?
I’ve been working out with Cheryl since she came to town 4 years ago and I have nothing but RAVES for her. She took a cardio junkie whose thyroid crashed out and turned me into a lean, mean, abs machine. I work out with a cardio trainer as well and he is SHOCKED by the things by Cheryl trained abs can do. I’ve lost over 9 inches around my mid-section since starting with her and I recommend her to anyone looking for tone and balance. She also excels in working around injury!Pros + One of only trainers in town to teach Gyrotonics AND pilates with a PT staff in officeCons – she’s popular and hard to get an appointment with unless you plan ahead
This is the first time I have ever rated any business. Westlake Pilates is fantastic. My Pilates instructor moved to LA and I was devasted. I had one session at a well know Pilates studio. It was like I was doing Pilates with a judgemental task master. The experience left me in tears. I drove around Austin going into different Pilates studios. I walked into Westlake Pilates and spoke to Julie Strycker, the owner. I told her that she would probably think I was weird but I wanted a studio with great energy. I also wanted someone to respect what I had been doing for a year. JULIE IS AMAZING!!! She sat with me, connected, listened, and asked me to show her what I had been doing. She did not judge my “Pilates” but used what I learned to take off from there. The energy of this studio is fantastic. It does not have any “katty” behavior or tension. Julie is caring, committed person to each individual client. She also is building a team of instructors that have the same qualitie
I finally found a place where I can go to move, dance and get reconnected to my body without feeling like I am “exercising” or not as fit as anyone else. I LOVE the Nia classes. The teachers are so accepting of everyone, no matter if someone is comfortable moving, has danced or exercised before or not. In every class, they create a safe space and a “community” where each person can move as she is comfortable. I love the fusion of many dance forms and how the movement is made very simple to follow. I also really enjoy the many different styles of music that make me feel relaxed and invigorated at the same time. Each class starts out very slowly and affirms that I need to listen to my body and do what brings me joy and freedom. The class is nicely “scaffolded” into more opportunities to move in different ways and there are always segments of “free dance” when I can be very private or feel connected to others in the studio. There is no judgement about what anyone does and we are all mad
I don’t know why it took me so long to try it, but both instructors have provided me with great workouts as a single or duet, using muscles I didn’t know I had. I always feel my body has gotten a full workout, with attentive and amazingly well-informed trainers. Individual attention allowed me help injured areas and grow stronger, better toned as well. Clearly these people who deal on a daily basis with dancers whose bodies must be maintained perfectly know how to keep a body in it best possible shape and they are of great benefit to individuals lucky enough to find a spot in their schedule and to benefit from their knowledge and commitment. I’d drive a long way to spend an hour in this pilates studio!Pros + Nice intimate setting, great equipment, highly trained coachesCons – Parking can be challenging,
