Where are the Best Music and Movies in Chicago, Illinois?
Now that I’ve entered my thirtysomething years, I have to admit that my musical tastes have mellowed somewhat. Nevertheless, I still enjoy going the the local record shop and rubbing elbows with the kiddies. And Rolling Stones Records is one of my favorite places to do that. The atmosphere is very much “independent record shop” However, the quality of the selection is hit and miss. For many older musical groups, the selection consists of maybe the 3 most popular albums plus a greatest hits compilation. For newer music, the selection is much better (of course). Best of all, they have a very good selection of music dvd’s. The only downside to this shop is that it’s located in a dying neighborhood (my opinion), and it’s located next to Harlem-Irving Plaza–a lousy excuse for a mall.Pros + anti-chain atmosphere, reasonable pricesCons – location
great store (andersonville location..) lakeview is awesome as well, they have stuff you don’t find everywhere, especially when it comes to lounge, chillout and world music compilations. plus they have a lot of the euro dance stuff that you’d get laughed at for asking for at another indie store in chicago. i’ve visited prague, london, berlin, etc and its awesome to finally have a store with the stuff they carry in europe. Pros + neat and clean, great look and helpful staffCons – not much vinyl
