Where are the Best Margarita in Portland, Oregon?
Found this restaurant on Trip Advisor and boy am I glad I did. The nicest waitstaff, very knowledgable. Yes, it is a small menu but good and carefully considered(want a big menu – go to Applebee’s) and it does lean on meat more. The waitress told us that the chef had been a butcher and knew how to get the…
i wandered in here while on a business trip. i liked the unpretentious atmosphere, even though i was in a business suit with the latest ‘it’ bag. i ordered a beer and some gucamole to start. the guac kind of fizzed in my mouth, so i figured it was off. to their credit, they replaced it but i still didn’t feel like there was a lot of flavor in the second, greener batch. i ordered an enchilada/tamale combo and was impressed with all the different fllings you could get with the enchilada. i chose the chicken mole and it was good. the beef tamale was good, too. i thought the beans that came with it were odd. they seemed like they had combined a can of refried beans with a can of whole beans, and tried to pass it off like it was homeade. the rice was good with a sort of rechopped look and nutmeg flavor. all in all, i think this is a solid value for the money.Pros + wait staff and chicken enchilada molesCons – none really
I agree with all comments from the previous review. The staff is wonderful, kind and personable. The food is superb. Fresh wrapped is good if it is not fried. All soup is scrumptious. The fried lobster bites are awsome (especially with the sauce)… the list goes on. Eat anything and you will be happy. Drinks are great and made by a bartender who knows their stuff.Big screen that is showing cartoons (or sportscenter) as you are listening to music.I miss the live DJ, but the staff generally has a good choice in music (or Aqua Teen Hunger Force). Not too crowded… and to me, this is the best part. This is an intimate and cozy bar with a non-smoking room in the front, a smoking room in the back (with great wall-art), and a couple tables out front during the dry season. Highly recommended! You must go there and try it out yourself!Pros + food, drinks, intimate atmosphere
Been to Saucebox a number of times, but always late night . Love the atmosphere, but drinks can be pricey for my usually low brow range. Finally able to catch their Happy Hour before a show, and I was so impressed.Well priced drinks ($3 Sapporo), and a fantastic food selection, $4 (!) each for a fantastic Miyako Burger and Pork Spring rolls. The Khao Soi was meh, but everything else made up for it.The service was prompt and friendly. The place was full, but the atmosphere was calm and we got our food in about 10 minutes. We came downtown for a show and I expected to be rushed. But the staff was so efficient and friendly, we had enough time to relax and enjoy a well-made Sazerac. Great experience. Will be back soon.Pros + Fantastic, reasonably priced Happy HourCons – Khao Soi not so great
I’m torn about this place. My partner and I have gone there on several occasions and after the first visit we quickly decided NEVER to order their margaritas again. At $8 each, you expect a little . . . I don’t know . . . tequila! But instead our drinks were just watered-down glasses of margarita mix. We also ordered the salmon tacos (which they’re supposedly “known” for) and the spicy ground beef tacos. The salmon tacos were nothing special at all – would never order them again. But their spicy ground beef tacos are absolutely THE BEST. So we have found ourselves going back there repeatedly – but only for the spicy ground beef tacos. So I guess my opinion is . . . spicy ground beef tacos – YES! The rest of the place . . . mediocre at best.Pros + Spicy ground beef tacosCons – Ambiance, Margaritas
