Where are the Best Margarita in Minneapolis, Minnesota?
I’ve been going to the Ol’ Mex off and on for years. It’s a sports bar with Mexican food and about 75 televisions. I will say that the service is consistently horrible: 19-year-old girls who couldn’t care less about you, with ZERO personality, not very welcoming. To give you an idea of the food quality, keep in mind that the only hot sauce in the restaurant is Tabasco, which may be good for Minnesotans, but it’s not even made in Mexico, it’s not hot, and it tastes terrible. Everything else comes from a can, smothered in cheese and sour cream. Even the chips and salsa are below average. Having moved to Minneapolis from the Southwest, we couldn’t wait to try this place.We were disappointed. The lighting was like a church basement with all the charm of a Denny’s. Filthy menus; mine actually smeared with fresh salsa. Although empty, the service was sluggish. Ordered beers twice before we got them. My friend’s burritos were “ok”. I ordered Devil Mary Chicken. I like hot food, well spiced with a major kick, but this was just heat for the sake of heat with no flavor. It’s no skill to make food so hot it’s inedible. The test is adding flavor to make the heat become savory. It’s possible that this was an off night. We ordered some pupusas that were close to Salvadoran pupusas, although the spicy slaw on top was frozen in places. We might try it again, but for now I’d have to say it rates pretty average.Pros + large menuCons – poor service
I decided to take my girlfriend to Bar Abilene because they are famous for two of her favorite things, guacamole and margaritas. She always makes guac at home so I trust her opinion, and she said the guac was the best restuarant guac she has had but it could have done without the roasted garlic. Personally, I loved it. We got there around 11 on Friday night, paid $9 for parking across the street. It wasn’t too crowded at all when we got there, but of course that would change after midnight. We took our seats at a booth that was both out of the way and in the mix – if that makes sense. Service was prompt and everything was delivered to us very quickly. Decor was chic and inviting, but I was surprised to see the TVs both displaying a Fox Sports Net fishing show, it was so out of place it was comical. I’ve been to a lot of mexican restaurants and this is in fact my favorite. I’ve come back for many reasons. You receive great service, our food got there 5 mins after we ordered! The servers are very nice and remember you when you come back. The inside is very festive with bright colors and always has music playing. When you go make sure to order the cheese dip along with your chips, absolutely awesome! I’ve heard of people actually ordering to go just for the cheese dip. There is a great variety of food in their menu, the best i’ve had so far would be the beef enchiladas and the tamales. Great for families and a very quick lunch. Strongly recommend going there. First off get the white cheese sauce cup to go with your chips – or get the Burrito Nacional to get enough cheese for dipping chips while you eat it! The food is authentic no matter what some people think (effete snobs!) and the service is fast. You’ll get your food so fast your head will spin! Get the great long island drinks and your head will spin sooner. And the prices on food and drink are excellent. I’ve been going to the Acapulco since it started on Coon Rapids Boulevard in an old Arby’s store. Now I go to the one in Blaine (by White Castle) but they are both great. I also live very close to the Champlin El Toro and guess what?
