The Moosehead is a true Charlotte classic with comfy, casual digs, inventive drinks, and great bar food … all at reasonable prices. But do not be mistaken — it IS a family restaurant. Children are welcome and fawned upon. If you’re looking for a place to let your hair down and party like a grown-up, you may well find yourself next to a table of feral toddlers bombarding you and yours with slimy Cheerios. We have been mortified on two seperate occasions by bringing out of town guests — then finding ourselves seated next to a wailing high chair quintet.So, got kids? Lots of ’em? Huge servings for the $$. Quite noisy, so perfect if your kids are a bit loud. Go on Sunday if you have kids under twelve — it’s free for them off the kids menu with a paying adult. Wonderful decour. Clean. Lots of seating, so not a big wait. Sometimes the wait for food can be long, so bring stuff for kids to do. The wait staff accomodated our request for non-alcoholic margauritas for the kids. Although many Charlotteans worried that this culinary mainstay’s move to South End would affect its comfortable feel and flavorful food, it was all for naught. Since the move, it’s improved. Order a margarita and wait for a table on the outdoor patio. The food, while not authentic Mexican, is hearty and doesn’t disappoint. Appetizer selection includes all the basics like guacamole, chili con queso, black bean soup and jalapeno poppers. Lunches are quick and cheap, and not so large that you’ll have to pull a George Costanza nap underneath your desk when you get back to the office. Most entrees come with rice and beans on the side, and chips and salsa are presented at each table upon seating.
