We went to Cafe Castagna last night and were completely delighted. First off, the service was impeccable: prompt, informed, pleasant, and unobtrusive. The meal was superb! A standout was the braised beef angliotti recommended by our server. They were really sensational, and came in a beef broth reduction with chives and I’m guessing sherry. The fried risotto croquettes with fontina were delightful. We ordered cheeseburgers and fries based on their reputation for burgers and they did not disappoint. I think the fries were some of the best tasting fries I have had anywhere. The potato flavor was clear and earthy, the fries were properly cooked – light and crispy on the outside and creamy in the middle. The burgers were superb, and the addition of delicious house-made sweet pickles didn’t hurt either. I can’t wait to go back and try more items, the people here clearly have skill and obviously cook with love and pride.Pros + service, angliotti, burgers, friesCons – none

Mothers is what I would describe as one of the perfect dining experiences in Portland, if you go on the weekends order the eggs benny I like to add avocado to mine, which has never been a problem. You want it you get it. If you go for lunch the chopped liver is to die for, ” if you like chop liver”, if not the best thing about Mothers is there is something for everyone, from burgers to salads to eggs and bacon. Just go!Pros + Amazing food, great service, and cocktailsCons – you have to smell the amazing food while you order

Order the burgers and Onion rings! This place is usually packed during lunch. Its a nice short drive into the country with a roadhouse feel. Rub elbows with bikers and Intel workers. Did I mention the amazing burgers? The prices and service are great! They serve RC if you happen to be the designated driver. Its a nice touch! A great place to stop on the way back from pumpkin patch or getting your Christmas tree.Pros + Burgers, onion rings, price, and serviceCons – Sometimes a long wait

This place is great for food, spirits and just an overall pleasant atmosphere….If you’re from out of town you’ll really like it….they’re not real supportive of Portland teams…except the Winterhawks..(minor league hockey) andThe Oregon State Beavers (High school football…lol)The Blazer’s…The Fire…The Pilots…The Ducks?…..forget about it! Dennis will have none of that…..So, all you Californian’s come on down! Oh….us Blazer fans are there alright….it’s too nice a place to not frequent…we just keep our mouth’s shut and drink…..Pros + Non smokingCons – service spotty

unless you know someone. i was at slow bar with a friend and we were ignored and then curtly dealt with by the waitress….until the owner came to talk with us because he is friends with my friend. then she treated us like gold. it was unbelievable. since then, the service is always horrible. i guess i should only go there with my cool friend…but they have an amazing burger, so it is worth the needlessly rude servers.
