Where are the Best French Fries in Atlanta, Georgia?
This place has a so so Brunch. The menu is over priced. We went today early to get ahead of the crowd at 10 AM and did reservations. They open at 10 AM on Sunday. The place was empty. The reason is that alcohol is not served until after noon. That means you can avoid all the drunks by going before noon. We had a good server but the coffee was not hot or fresh. The orange juice was very pulpy and sour. We did in fact tell the manager when they came to the table to check on our visit. They seem to be interested and apologized. The food came out fast enough which was like ten minutes. It was luke warm but not hot. The biscuits were cold like they had been made the day before so that was not good. I was not impressed. I like the parent company who has several local places in the area but really this place is not great. It is run of the mill and really has lost the edge. The staff seems alright and the hostes was nice. The place is just not energetic and the staff seems stuck in a funk. I r
All I’ve got to say, the dude’s who own Brickstore, have outdone themselves. Just around the corner from BS, Leon’s is in the old gas station/antique store. Wonderful community driven spot, singles, couples w/children, the girlz of Decatur, and the overall community spirit. Very similar beer selections as Brickstore, but with some of the best gourmet pub grub around. After ordering our beers, it was starters of Pub Frites, w/choice of two sauces. We chose the Spicy Mango Catsup & Fresh Horseradish Mayo. These babies, we could make a meal of, with the beer, and cozy booth. But we wanted the full experience of this new hot spot. I ordered the Slow Roasted Beef Brisket, w/Black Peppercorn gravy, fried onions. serverd open faced. Oh man, grandma never made brisket like this. My buddy, Birkenstock kind of guy, had the earth seared “Veggie Loaf”, w/roasted cauliflower-shitake sundried sauce, sundried tomato salad w/a pecan romesco. He was in veg-head heaven. Service was great, laidback, no r
There are so many things to like about the Porter. The heady beer list, the greasy-good double cheeseburger, the cool decor with vintage luggage on display. But the one thing that gets me every time I go to the Porter is the salt & vinegar popcorn. It cost like $3, and it comes in a massive, silver bowl. Perfect for sharing with the table as an app, or as an afternoon snack with beer-swilling companion. And salt & vinegar might seem a little bit strange on the surface, but it’s just the right amount of salty, tart and fluffy. It has the zing that’s typically reserved for NC-style barbecue sauce, a thin vinegar based sauce that seems to get more crave-worthy as you eat it. Now maybe because NC-style is my favorite type of ‘cue and any salad dressing with vinegar in it is automatically my favorite… but this is one of my favorite appetizers in the city. Don’t be scared, it’s delish. Pros + Great beer selection, addictive… popcorn? Absolutely.Cons – Parking can be tough, crowded
I have to confess… I never order a burger at the Vortex. And I know, in the Burger Capital of America (Wall St Journal said it, not me) this is one of THE spots for a proper Atlanta hamburger. But I always sub chicken at the Vortex, specifically with the Big Fat Jerk (now called the Rajin-Cajun) because the burgers are a little bit too big. I wish they’d take a cue from George’s and offer two sizes of burgers. Plus my thought is that if I’m going to order something gooey, cheesy, slathered in sauce and difficult to eat…. I would rather it NOT be ground beef. That just makes it into a giant mess that makes holding on to the burger more of a priority than actually eating it. The array of burger variations–that include the sloppy likes of guac, bananas, teriyaki glaze, chili, pesto sauce, etc–just seem to go better with (gasp) chicken. Regardless on the beef vs veggie vs bison vs chicken debate, I give universal kudos for the best tator tots in the city, and for carrying Magic
