Where are the Best Exotic Drinks in San Francisco, California?
This bar is cool since it’s right down the street from where I stay. They have a smoking lounge (says it’s a patio, but actually indoors, which is nice) for smokers like me… They have a great happy hour, and 4 for $10 Jello Shots 24/7! Can’t beat that! There’s also dancing with a pretty big floor (for this part of town) but it gets packed on the weekends. The bartenders serve quickly and with lots of friendliness, despite large crowds. I’m a gay, high end, professional businessman from Las Vegas, and I’ve been coming to the Lion Pub for about ten years, every time I’m in the City. I certainly regret that the gay character (mostly gay, professional males who live in the area) has beem deminished over the recent years, but at the same time, I’m fascinated to see this “discovery” of a great bar by the apparently straight, female professional class (and there boyfriends), as if it was all something brand new. The Lion Pub was a great bar ten years ago, and I’m sure will remain so (under present ownership) for many years to come. It’s fun to hear the Ladies rave about fresh ingredients (ambience, etc.), when many bars have been using fresh lemons,limes & pineapples for an awfully long time. Gee, Gals, you really do need to get out more. Ponzu is good at the pan asian thing, but I am from Connecticut where the king of pan Asian cuisine, chef Bun Lai, resides in his one of a kind restaurant, Miya. Once you’ve been to Miya, you are ruined for anything else pan Asian, and I am not exaggerating on iota. Where can I get an “Ebibaba” in SanFran? We have great great restaurants here but is there anything around like Miya’s Sushi? If you arn’t going to be in Connecticut, at least take a peek at chef Bun Lai’s myspace page which is unusual, to say the least.
The drinks here are fantastic. The crowd is too homogenous for my taste – white, upper class, cell phone yakkers. Last time I was there, some women at the next table were actually passing around a tape measure and comparing their waists. I have found the service here to be hot and cold. In the early evenings, there is only one bartender. We all waited over 20 minutes to be served, and when I asked to be helped after being skipped in line several times, the woman bartender who serves there often actually yelled at me, “WHAT?! WHAT?! WHAT DO YOU WANT THEN?!” The patrons all around me were taken aback and told me not to tip, but I did anyway.
