Where are the Best Exotic Drinks in Portland, Oregon?
Went to the Alibi a couple of weeks ago for a bachelorette party and even though it was packed, we managed to grab a booth in the back for all 10 of us. Unfortunately we were told there were 40 people ahead of us for karaoke already. A few of us put songs up plus the requisite $1 each (which I only think you should have to pay when you actually sing a song) including the bride. The KJ was very nice and after slipping her a fiver, she said she would make sure the bride-to-be sang, which she did after not too long. We were also told we could only order 3 items from the menu since we got there a bit after midnight and the kitchen was closed. We ended up ordering all three items including chips and salsa, which was good, hummus with pita, which was also good, and the macaroni and cheese, which was totally AWESOME! Been to Saucebox a number of times, but always late night . Love the atmosphere, but drinks can be pricey for my usually low brow range. Finally able to catch their Happy Hour before a show, and I was so impressed.Well priced drinks ($3 Sapporo), and a fantastic food selection, $4 (!) each for a fantastic Miyako Burger and Pork Spring rolls. The Khao Soi was meh, but everything else made up for it.The service was prompt and friendly. The place was full, but the atmosphere was calm and we got our food in about 10 minutes. We came downtown for a show and I expected to be rushed. But the staff was so efficient and friendly, we had enough time to relax and enjoy a well-made Sazerac. Great experience. Went here on a Thursday night for happy hour. Was busy but still was able to get a seat for 2 people. Loved all the choices of drinks (their website is really well done, too, and I even picked my drinks ahead of time). We were starving too, so ordered some spreads and cheese. The drinks were good, and the food was absolutely wonderful. The Vault is high on my list for ambiance & eats, and somewhere in the middle for the drinks (that I tried that night). I love this place. I like to take out of town visitors here to show them a perfect example of a great portland restaurant. The servers are always friendly and inviting without coming across as fake. I can say that I’ve tried most the dishes and could recommend pretty much everything so far. i do have to wonder about the review bagging on the beet salad. its one of my favorites. if you need more beets, just ask. not every person on every kitchen staff in town knows how many beets will keep your obnoxious yuppie whining at bay.Pros + excellent & friendly staff, creative dishes, consistent bar.Cons – sometimes there are completely obnoxious customers.
