Where are the Best Exotic Drinks in Chicago, Illinois?
You will either love or hate this place. I’ve been here three times, always for birthday parties and it’s always fun. Yes, it’s way too crowded, and the crowd is your typical lincoln park trixies/chads. But this is the kind of place where you just want to drink yourself silly, but have a great time doing it. Calling ahead to reserve tables near the karaoke is a really smart move. And Toby is the best/coolest karaoke host in the city (but PLEASE fix your Red Hot Chili Peppers CD). The pub grub is pretty good too. And considering how crowded and obnoxious it can get, the service isn’t too bad either.
I have frequented the Matchbox in the past in hopes that I would have a good time there. I was there one night and was actually accused of being a “bad tipper!” How hard is it to tip a bottle of wine into a glass and how much do you think you deserve for that talented maneover? Get over yourselves all ready. My husband went in just last Saturday – 9/2, and could not even get someone to wait on him in what was an very uncrowded bar. Whatever happened to service? If I can avoid it, I will never go there again simply because the service of most of the male bartenders is appalling. The girls, great, always helpful. But the guys seem to think they only have to wait on the pretty, single girls and the guys who are big tippers, and let’s face it, you’re working at a bar and you’re almost 40 years old. Get over yourselves.Pros + Most of the drinks are expertly madeCons – Service is not a word that applies to this establishment
Yes the view is very nice, (more on that in a sec) and the food isn’t bad. But, two different employees, one at check in, referred to us as ‘guys’. (We are a middle aged couple, and my wife is clearly not a ‘guy) Topping that off, however, was the host who was walking around through the restaurant checking on table vacancies chewing gum. Possibly there was a shortage of staff last night and they sent over a few people from Ed Debevic’s to work. That could be the only excuse for this attitude from staff.Initial service was very slow. We sat for almost 10 minutes before the first waiter came by with the menus, and ask for drink orders. No water yet, or bread. (no bread basket, someone comes around and gives you a roll. Actually, he was about the most efficient employee all evening)The initial waiter came back about 5 minutes later and explained some of the specials, and took our drink order. A few minutes another waiter came by and mentioned specials for the night, included some t
