Where are the Best Cheap Eats in Salt Lake City, Utah?
My office is between two Cafe Rio locations – Taylorsville and 33rd South. We often call in an order to one or the other to be picked up for lunch. The Taylorsville restaurant has some of the most unfriendly employees I have yet to encounter anywhere and if you have more than a couple of orders, guaranteed, they will get them wrong. Very frustrating when you go through all you have to at Cafe Rio just to get your food – parking, lines, noise then to have it wrong. The 33rd South location is just in a outrageously small building with absolutely no reasonable parking available. It is a lesson in frustration to go there and try to park. The orders are usually right, but they are never done when they tell you to arrive for pick up and more than once, I have waited up to 40 minutes for my call- in order of only two salads and watched several employees stand around while no one is helping you! Customer service is clearly not a priority at Cafe Rio. The food at Cafe Rio is really very good, b
Had high hopes for this place. Wanted a casual place to take friends to. While the service was friendly, it was slow. The food was mediocre. I ordered the Shrimp Enchiladas – there were 4 shrimp in two enchiladas. We got our bill only when we flagged down the waitress. We’ll find another Meican place in Park City next time
If you haven’t had one of their chicken salads you’re missing out! The bottom layer is lemon saffron rice covered by lettuce and topped with loads of shredded chicken and an amazing seasoning. Top it with their house dressing and it’s the best salad you’ll ever get under $5.00. Take time to talk to the owners and employees about their home country. You’ll be glad you live safely in Utah.Pros + chicken, ribs, friendly employeesCons – closes at weird hours, location
I went to Over the Counter for the first time last Saturday. The place was bustling with energy, and hungry patrons filled the entire dining area. The food was simple down hom cooking. The home fries are EXCELLENT, and the bacon is thick and smokey. I recommend the 2 egg breakfast with bacon, ham or sausage for $4. They give you 4 large strips of bacon, so you better have someone to share with. The breakfast was excellent and the atmosphere was great. I highly recommend it.Pros + cheap eatsCons – parking, coffee
I went to The Other Place for the first time last night after hearing about it on line. The place has great food at really good prices. The portions are HUGE, and the DALMATHES were perfect. They have great feta as well. I cannot wait to go there to sample their breakfasts next time. The staff was friendly and I have enough leftovers to enjoy tasty Greek food for lunch today. I highly recommend it.Pros + Large Portions, FABULOUS Dalmathes, Inexpensive
