Where are the Best Cheap Eats in Portland, Oregon?

We’ve eaten Vietnamese all over the country, including lots in SF and LA, and this place is definitely a good one, the best in Portland. The family that owns the restaurant is from Orange county, and they really know how to excellently and authentically prepare many dishes, including a very tasty version of one of the 7 courses of beef (not on the menu, just ask for it). Also great are their banh cuon dishes, the stuffed crepe (banh xeo), the desserts (che), and the soups are pretty good too. One of our favorite cheap eats in Portland.Pros + authentic Vietnamese foodCons – none

It’s no Yoko’s, but Mio is pretty good. The wait was a bit unpleasant, but once we were seated, we were served right away. I ordered the veggie bento with noodles, and it was good food at a good value. The noodles were great, with a delicious sauce. The veggie roll was also very good, with minimal seaweed (which I hate) and lots of vegetables. The meal also came with fried tofu, which was the most unimpressive aspect of the meal, a salad and miso soup, all for around $8. The sake selection was also pretty good.Give Mio a try!Pros + Bentos, valueCons – Long waits

Yes, Portland isn’t San Francisco. We know California has good burritos. I was born and raised there. Big forkin’ whoop – we’re talking about Oregon, Geeves. So let’s clarify: If you are in Portland (and you’d have to be to eat here) and you want to eat some legit Mexican food, this place is good. I’d call it a ‘greasy-spoon’ Mexican restaurant. If you want fruity “wraps” (gasp) or other health food, go somewhere else. The Carnitas is good. The Chicken is my favorite. And the chips are always warm. It’s also totally cheap. I am a HUGE connoisseur of Mexican food and burritos (see: California) and this certainly answers the need. And it’s a friggin drive-through. What’s better than that? Nothing, that’s what. I’m not crazy about their salsas, but they are workable. Now, if my friend hadn’t told me about this place, I never would have gone there. It looks unremarkable, it’s a drive-through(!) and it’s across the street from a drive-through pizza place that SURELY doe

I used to travel to 23rd just for this stuff. It’s been awhile but I recently went back for a slice and was instantly reminded of why I loved their pizza. Not the attitude, the quirky walls plastered…

I go here a couple of times a month, it’s close to my office, and I always get the Relleno Burrito. I find it super tasty and full of flavor, I add some of the red sauce to the inside. Sometimes I want to try something else but I love the Relleno Burrito too much. I love the quick service and the cheapness of the food. The quality isn’t A+ but it is very good. The thing I don’t like is that I often have to call and call and call because they ignore their phone and I don’t like standing around waiting for my burrito. Also I always eat the whole thing and always want to take a nap by about 2:00 because I’m so full of deliciousness. Some of my coworkers just eat half of one but I lack their willpower.Pros + Cheap, FastCons – Parking, Service, Ambiance
